WHY THE RIGHT GRADE MATTERS

Too weak a grade corrodes early; too strong a grade wastes money. GradeCompass picks the grade that is safe for the location and cheapest over its service life.
1Read the environment. The location sets a corrosivity class (ISO 9223 scale).
2Remove unsafe grades. Pitting, temperature, welding, microbial and hydrogen risks rule grades out.
3Rank by real cost. Safe grades are ranked by price per kg and per year of service. If none is safe, the enquiry goes to a Jindal expert.

Prototype scope & assumptions
  • Scope: 12 grades, 12 districts, 7 applications. The full build covers 120+ grades and ~800 districts.
  • Corrosivity: ISO 9223-style class from distance to coast, humidity, rainfall and SO₂ (IMD, ERA5, CPCB and CSIR-CECRI data in the full build).
  • Prices: indicative ex-mill (₹175/kg for grade 430 as baseline). Stockist quotes can be higher; edit ₹/kg to test.
  • Service life: engineering estimate from PREN margin, not a standards model.
  • Ranking weights: to be calibrated by a Jindal metallurgist panel (target ≥ 95% top-3 agreement on 200+ real enquiries).
  • Not yet checked: stress-corrosion cracking, crevice and galvanic corrosion; BIS / ASME / RDSO certification.
